Rotherwood - Pinot Grigio 2014
The pinot gris clone D1V7 and the pinot grigio clone VCR5 were grafted to three rootstocks, 101-14, Teleki 5C and Schwarzman and planted in 2007.
After crushing and pressing, the juice was partially clarified by cold settling and the slightly milky juice was then fermented cold, at around 13°C, to retain the fragrant aromas. The light grape solids in the juice add texture and complexity. The wine was matured on its yeast lees for two months and then bottled early, in July, to retain freshness.
Pale yellow-bronze in colour. The nose exudes delicious pear and almond aromas with hints of brioche from yeast lees. Round, soft and medium bodied to the palate. With delicate stonefruit flavours, this fine wine finishes with mild, light texture and balanced acidity.
Pinot grigio is delightfully fresh in its first year, but will fill out and gain more richness with a further year in bottle. Enjoy it with fish and other seafood, chicken or simply by itself.
