Bruce Pryor is a master ceramicist based in the Southern Highlands of NSW, 2x hours south of Sydney. Bruce specialises in fine hand made studio ceramics, largely wheel thrown; gas fired and wood fired stoneware and fine hand carved translucent porcelain. All pieces are fired over 1300oC. These are highly collectable unique pieces to be handed down through the generations.
Bruce is constantly refining and exploring new directions with his work, whilst still heavily influenced by classic Japanese traditions.
Born in New Zealand in 1951. Bruce pursues his dream to become a potter & arrives in Sydney in 1970. Bruce establishes “The Martinville Pottery” near Newcastle in 1972. Totally self taught at Martinsville, Bruce made his own clay & glazes from local materials & also built a gas fired kiln, and then in 2006 built a large, two chambered, wood fired kiln.
Bruce shifted to his new studio in Bundanoon in 1988, where he works in both stoneware and porcelain using both gas and wood kilns.
Bruce has exhibited widely over the years and is represented in both regional galleries and private collections internationally.
